Biography

Born in Melbourne Australia, now living in London UK Peter Demetris is a highly experienced and visually creative film & TV professional.

His career began at HSV Channel Seven in Melbourne in their studio vision control department. From there he progressed to vision mixer, and eventually multi-camera live director on sport, comedy, music, and children’s programmes. Peter's talent was recognised when he was scouted by the head of the Seven Network Entertainment Department at ATN Channel Seven and he soon relocated to Sydney to direct Australia’s most popular music programme, Saturday Morning Live. Working in this division also presented opportunities to work on large-scale special events such as John Farnham Live from World Expo, the Bee Gees Live - One For All concert, The Logie TV Awards, and John Farnham and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

"I enjoyed those years at ATN 7 in Epping. There were some wonderful people working in those studios and production offices, and together we made some fantastic programmes."

Peter directed Tonight Live with Steve Vizard, Australia's version of The Late Show; a five-night-per-week live chat show comprising celebrity chat, standup comedy, stunts, and music performances.

Moving to the UK Peter directed a broad range of TV programmes including The Word, Live TV, GMTV, Britain’s Got More Talent, The Sharon Osbourne Show, The Jack Docherty Show, Nickelodeon Skills Awards, and film launches such as the Spectre James Bond 007 Royal Premiere.

A return to Sydney saw Peter direct the Australian Music Awards hosted by Pamela Anderson. The 2 hour live event from the Horden Pavillion featured performances from Australian and international artists.

Moving from multi-camera directing Peter carved a successful career as a Series Director and Self-Shooting Producer/Director making programmes mostly for Channel 4. It was in this genre he re-discovered his love for visual storytelling.

"Since I was 9 I've always owned a camera. I started shooting with a Box Brownie, then 35mm stills and eventually commandeered my Dad's Super 8 camera. My natural desire has always been to tell stories with pictures, so I guess it's logical that I would end up shooting single camera narratives."

With experience as an actor and love of visual story telling it was no surprise that Peter's career path would veer towards film. He added Steadicam to his camera operating skills and is a Friend of the ACO (the Association of Camera Operators).

Peter worked on Lost in London, the world's first live feature film. Written, directed and starring Woody Harrelson this ground-breaking, one-shot movie was streamed into 589 packed cinemas in the USA and 1 in the UK. As the Live Gallery Director, Peter was responsible for the smooth presentation of the movie. He also shot behind-the-scenes footage which was edited into a dramatic four-minute prologue to the post-produced final feature film. As a passion project, Peter is currently directing his passion project, a dramatic feature length documentary on how Woody pulled off his unique idea.

As citizen of the UK, EU, Australia & New Zealand, Peter is able to travel seamlessly into any of these territories and work without hindrance.
