Camera Operator

Peter has always had an eye for visual composition and story telling, so it's no surprise that whilst working as a Self-Shooting Producer/Director on factual TV series he built a solid reputation as an excellent camera operator.

Shooting behind-the-scenes on feature films Peter became fascinated by the role of camera operator and how much they contributed to the narrative. He became a friend of the ACO (Association of Camera Operators) and immersed himself in the craft of operating by learning from his peers.

After participating in a one day introduction to Steadicam run by the ACO, Peter then booked two days of intensive training with Optical Support followed by a one week course in Morocco run by Steadicam Action and attended by Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown.

Inspired by the craft of operating Peter bought a Steadicam rig and heavy duty vest and so began his operating career.

"I see the the crafts of directing and camera operating as complimentary, with one benefitting the other. With my directing experience I can use my skills of blocking and performance to enhance my camera operating, helping support the Director and Director of Photography to realise their collective vision. As an experienced camera operator whilst directing I am able to guide my DP and the camera team to capture the best performance, whilst being sympathetic and understanding of their challenges. It really is a win-win combination!"
